  • Soak corms in water for 3-4 hours before planting or pre-sprouting.

Pre-sprouting: line a flat container (like a cookie sheet or growing tray) with ~1" of potting soil. Place pre-soaked corms "tenticles" down into the soil and cover with potting soil. Once sprouts start to poke through the surface, plant outside in prepared bed. This gives the corms a bit of a head start to growing.

Planting outside: plant pre-soaked corms or pre-sprouted corms "tenticles" down 2" deep and ~4-6" apart in prepared bed.

Corms can handle a light frost but will rot if frozen. Consider researching your growing zone for the best time to plant. Ranunculus take ~90 days to flower.

Ranunculus thrive in cool weather and will go dormant in temperatures above 70-75oF. In Knoxville (zone 7a), I plant mine between December-no later than February and use row covers with frost cloth and plastic for nights at or below freezing. They typically go dormant by Mother's Day in May.
